Based in Milwaukee, wisconsin, bugs and bytes is a blog by carlos figueroa castro. His posts explore infectious diseases and technology.

My "first" post

Welcome to my blog about the intersection of infectious diseases, infection prevention, and digital technologies including data analysis, visualization, and use of free and open source software (FOSS). I've tried keeping a blog about similar interests when I was in private practice...it ended up being mostly about Linux (no regrets).

Now that I've been an academic physician for some time, I thought it would be a good experience to share in blog form some of the challenges of a doctor that wears many hats (seeing patients, developing an academic career, figuring out what it takes to be a good infection preventionist), and how some freely available tools could make the ride less bumpy.

See you around, fellow nerds!

(as it turns out, this is not the "first" post...more to come)
